The future of Dead Space 4 remains uncertain after Glen Schofield, alongside developers Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins, confirmed in an interview that their proposal for the next chapter in the acclaimed franchise was rejected by EA. The conversation unfolded on Dan Allen Gaming's YouTube channel, where the team candidly discussed their pitch and EA's response.

The discussion began with Stone humorously recounting how his son, a fan of the series, pleaded for a new game, to which Stone could only respond with a wishful "I wish." The developers then shared their attempt to pitch Dead Space 4 to EA earlier in the year, only to be swiftly declined. Schofield recounted, "We didn’t go too deep. They just said ‘We’re not interested right now, we appreciate it blah blah blah’ and we know who to talk to, so we didn’t go take it any further." He added, "And we respected their opinion—they know their numbers and what they have to ship." Stone noted the current hesitancy in the gaming industry to invest in older franchises, stating, "The industry is in a weird place right now where people are hesitant to take chances on things—especially a decade-old franchise."

Despite the positive reception of last year's Dead Space remake, which scored an impressive 89 on Metacritic and a Very Positive rating on Steam, it seems that EA's appetite for revisiting the franchise is not as strong. Schofield reiterated, "They know their numbers and what they have to ship," suggesting that the commercial performance of the remake may not have met EA's expectations for greenlighting a new title.

Despite the setback, optimism persists among the developers. Stone expressed hope, saying, "Maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it," with Schofield and Robbins nodding in agreement. While they are currently working on separate projects and no longer under the same studio, their enthusiasm for revisiting Dead Space remains strong. They believe that with time, the opportunity to bring Dead Space 4 to life could still arise, potentially reigniting the horror genre with another thrilling chapter.
