Fallout 76's latest update introduces players to the unique experience of navigating Appalachia as a Ghoul. On March 18, Bethesda announced the launch of Season 20, "The Ghoul Within," which brings an array of ghoul-centric features, mechanics, and new cosmetic options to revamp your C.A.M.P.

With this update, players can undergo Ghoulification via the "Leap of Faith" questline. This journey leads players to unexplored parts of the Savage Divide, introducing them to new characters pivotal to their transformation. As a Ghoul, players gain access to exclusive abilities such as Glow and Feral, along with 30 unique Ghoul-exclusive Perks.

The Feral ability transforms the conventional hunger and thirst mechanics into a dynamic Feral meter. Depending on its level, players receive different boosts. However, reaching 0% on the meter drastically alters gameplay: "At 0%: you gain +150% Melee Damage, and lose -5 Endurance, -99 Charisma, -30 Max HP, -20 Max AP, -300% Hip-fire Gun Accuracy & V.A.T.S. Accuracy."

Conversely, the Glow ability lets players absorb radiation, granting immunity to diseases and mutations while causing them to emit a literal glow. This ability not only boosts maximum health and heals existing damage but also enhances Ghoul-exclusive Perks, dubbed "Gherks" by Bethesda.

Players have access to 28 perks and two new legendary perks designed specifically for Ghouls. Note that traditional perks related to Hunger, Thirst, and Chem Resistance are unavailable to Ghouls, as these mechanics don't apply to them.

A Day in the Life of a Ghoul

Embracing the Ghoul life simplifies navigating the radioactive wasteland, thanks to the array of Gherks and unique abilities. However, interactions with certain factions, like the Brotherhood of Steel, may become hostile, potentially locking players out of specific questlines.

To circumvent these restrictions, players can utilize disguises provided by a new NPC named Jaye, enabling them to access content that would otherwise be unavailable due to their Ghoul status. Should the Ghoul life not meet expectations, players can revert to human form through the Character Screen. However, this decision is irreversible, as the Leap of Faith questline can't be repeated. Players wishing to become Ghouls again can purchase the Ghoul Retransformation for 1000 Atoms.

Level 50 Character Boost and Season 20 Patch Notes

Whether you're a newcomer eager to dive into the action or a seasoned dweller of Appalachia, the Level 50 Character Boost is here to accelerate your journey. Available for 1500 Atoms within the Season 20 update, this boost equips players with various enhancements, enabling immediate engagement with multiplayer features like Daily Ops, Public Events, and select story content.

The update also includes comprehensive patch notes featuring bug fixes, combat balancing, weapon damage adjustments, and accessibility improvements. Bethesda teases the upcoming "The Big Bloom" update, scheduled for April 29, as part of their season calendar.
