Halloween Director Unveils Videogame Partnership

John Carpenter and Boss Team Games Team Up for Two New Halloween Games
John Carpenter, the legendary director behind the original Halloween film, is lending his creative expertise to two new video games based on the iconic horror franchise. This exciting news comes from Boss Team Games, the studio behind the critically acclaimed Evil Dead: The Game, in an exclusive reveal with IGN.
The collaboration marks a significant step for the Halloween franchise in the gaming world, which has seen limited official releases to date. Carpenter, a self-avowed gamer, expressed immense enthusiasm for the project, promising a truly terrifying gaming experience.
Developed with Unreal Engine 5 in partnership with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, these early-stage projects aim to recreate iconic moments from the films and let players embody beloved (and feared) characters. Boss Team Games CEO, Steve Harris, described the opportunity to work with such legendary figures as a dream come true.
While specifics remain scarce, the announcement alone has ignited considerable excitement among fans.
A Sparse but Significant Gaming History for Halloween
The Halloween franchise’s gaming history pales in comparison to its cinematic legacy. The only official game prior to this announcement was a 1983 Atari 2600 release, now a coveted collector's item. Michael Myers, however, has appeared as DLC in titles like Dead by Daylight, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and Fortnite, solidifying his presence in the gaming landscape.
The upcoming games’ promise to feature “classic characters” strongly hints at the inclusion of both Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, setting the stage for a captivating showdown between these iconic adversaries.
The Halloween film series, spanning thirteen entries since its 1978 debut, includes:
- Halloween (1978)
- Halloween II (1981)
- Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
- Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
- Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
- Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
- Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
- Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
- Halloween (2007)
- Halloween (2018)
- Halloween Kills (2021)
- Halloween Ends (2022)
A Match Made in Horror Heaven: Boss Team Games and John Carpenter
Boss Team Games’ expertise in horror gaming is undeniable, with Evil Dead: The Game serving as a testament to their ability to faithfully recreate beloved franchises. This success, coupled with Carpenter's known passion for video games (as evidenced by his interviews discussing titles like Dead Space, Fallout 76, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla), promises a truly authentic and thrilling experience.
The anticipation is palpable. Horror fans and gamers alike eagerly await further details and a chillingly immersive experience from these upcoming Halloween games.
