Tides of Annihilation Targets Western Audience

The Central Concept of Arthurian Myths and Knights

Eclipse Glow Games, despite being based in China, has tailored Tides of Annihilation to appeal to Western gamers. The decision was influenced by their financial backer, Tencent, which set different expectations for this project compared to Black Myth: Wukong. "This game and Black Myth: Wukong are two projects invested in by Tencent, and there were different expectations set on these two projects. Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, but for this project, we targeted a Western audience, so we chose the Arthurian legends," explained the game's producer. The central theme revolves around knights, specifically King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.

Set in a post-apocalyptic modern-day London, Tides of Annihilation depicts a city devastated by an Outworld invasion, with Gwendolyn, the protagonist, as the apparent sole human survivor. The game blends an alternate modern setting with fantasy elements drawn directly from Arthurian mythology.

Devil May Cry-inspired Combat and Over 30 Bosses

Fans of action-RPGs will notice that Tides of Annihilation adopts a combat style reminiscent of Devil May Cry. The developers confirmed this influence, stating, "It's definitely more like Devil May Cry," but they've also included a difficulty selection feature to make the game more accessible to a broader audience. Players can customize their combat style with four different weapons and over ten unique Knights as sidekicks. Gwendolyn can command the legendary Knights of the Round Table to aid her in navigating a ruined London and uncovering the truth behind the invasion. With over 30 bosses, each boasting unique abilities, players are in for challenging and engaging gameplay.

Plans of Creating an Anthology

Eclipse Glow Games also expressed their ambition to expand Tides of Annihilation into an anthology series. They are considering incorporating different settings and mythologies, with each game featuring a new protagonist. "But we would still want to use the Outworld invasion concept that we're using for Tides of Annihilation," they noted, suggesting that this theme will be the cornerstone of the potential anthology. The success of the first title is crucial for realizing this vision and bringing more mythologies and stories to life.

Tides of Annihilation is currently in its beta phase, with a tentative launch planned for 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will follow Gwendolyn as she battles fate and strives to save not only London but also the fantasy realm of Avalon, which is intertwined with the real world.
