Unleash your keys and dive into the world of open source with KeyMapper! This powerful tool lets you remap a variety of hardware buttons to enhance your device's functionality. Here's what you can remap:
- Fingerprint gestures on supported devices.
- Volume buttons.
- Navigation buttons.
- Bluetooth/wired keyboards.
- Buttons on other connected devices should also work.
Remember, only hardware buttons can be remapped. There's no guarantee that all buttons will work, and this app is not designed to control games. Your device's OEM/vendor might prevent some buttons from being remapped.
You can combine multiple keys from a specific device or any device to form a "trigger." Each trigger can have multiple actions. Keys can be set to be pressed simultaneously or sequentially. They can be remapped for short presses, long presses, or double presses. A keymap can include "constraints" to ensure it only activates in certain situations.
However, not all buttons can be remapped. The following are off-limits:
- Power button
- Bixby button
- Mouse buttons
- Dpad, thumb sticks, or triggers on game controllers
Please note that your key maps won't work if the screen is off, due to Android limitations. There's nothing the developer can do about this.
So, what can you remap your keys to do? Some actions require a rooted device and specific Android versions. For a comprehensive list of actions, visit here.
Permissions are essential for KeyMapper to function effectively, but you don't need to grant all permissions for the app to work. The app will notify you if a permission is necessary for a feature:
- Accessibility Service: A basic requirement for remapping to work. It allows the app to listen to and block key events.
- Device Admin: To turn the screen off using the action to turn off the screen.
- Modify System Settings: To change brightness and rotation settings.
- Camera: To control the flashlight.
On some devices, enabling the accessibility service may disable "enhanced data encryption."
