VNeID Application for Electronic Identification and Authentication

The VNeID application, developed by the National Population Data Center under Vietnam's Ministry of Public Security, leverages population data to provide electronic identification and authentication services. This app is specifically designed for individuals residing or traveling within Vietnam, offering a digital alternative to traditional documentation.

The VNeID app plays a pivotal role in fostering digital citizenship, government, and society. It allows users to conduct medical and domestic travel declarations efficiently. Moreover, it assists authorities in tracking secondary infections of COVID-19, ensuring timely notifications to affected individuals.

Access Permissions

By using VNeID, users consent to the app accessing the following features on their devices:

1. Internet Access: Necessary for the app to function online.
2. Camera Access: Used to scan the QR code on the Citizen Identification Card (CCCD), speeding up the input of basic citizen information and facilitating quick travel and medical declarations via QR code scanning at designated points.
3. Access to Photos, Videos, Audio, and Files: Enables storage of QR code images for verification at citizen checkpoints.
4. Notification Sending: Allows the app to send alerts directly to the user's device.

Collection of Personal Information

Users voluntarily input their data, including medical and domestic travel information, either for themselves or on behalf of others with their consent. The personal details collected encompass full name, phone number, citizen identification, gender, year of birth, permanent address, nationality, health status, travel origins and destinations, vehicle registration numbers, and any exposure to individuals with COVID-19. All data is entered into forms and submitted with the user's permission, and users are responsible for their actions in providing this information.

Protection of Privacy and Copyright

The National Population Data Center, under the Ministry of Public Security, ensures the secure storage and protection of user data. This information is exclusively used for COVID-19 prevention and control, safeguarding public health, and is not utilized for commercial purposes or to infringe on private lives. Data may be shared with health authorities and other relevant entities to enhance COVID-19 prevention efforts.

The developers of the VNeID app do not collect or use user information for any purposes beyond those stated. They also commit to not disclosing any information that could harm users or violate their privacy rights according to Vietnamese law or the app's policies.

Notably, VNeID does not collect location data, ensuring user privacy. Additionally, users can participate in the community anonymously, with only authorized bodies having access to details of infected individuals or those at risk due to close contact with a COVID-19 case for the purpose of contact tracing.
